I have some advice for you - never buy a Ford from a Chevy or Dodge dealer. The probability that it's a lemon is higher than if you buy one from a Ford dealer.
well i just got back in town tonight. im goin to test drive the truck 2morrow. but i did get a chance to look under part of the truck and it is painted black., looks pretty clean , but i wasnt all up under it so... the truck is a 250 xl. cloth, no power anything. i got the chance to sart it up, but the dealer wouldnt let me drive it since im under 18. it idles smooth, and has a good sound to it. i havent checked any of the lubes yet tho. i will tho before and after i drive it. the tires are 305/70R16's...which is a european sized 33/12.50/16 tire. they are mid worn, not to bad,and no signs of mis-alingment or outta balance. i havent mafde up my mind juts yet tho. still a few more things i have to do. ill keep ya informed tho.
My trucks twice as old, 80000 miles, F-250, XL, HD, 4x4, 460, and since it is twice the age i'll sell it to you for half the price
BTW it cost me 1600 bucks in cali.
well i finally test drove the truck. it has a small exhaust leak in the muffler, so it ticks when you get on the gas. it shifts smooth, no bumping, going up or back down through the gears. it has a locker in the rear so its hard to back up and turn. the 4x4 works good. its shifts real tight/firm, no unnesecary movement of the shifter. i did notice tho, under the front axle chunk, it is leaking slightly. would a new gasket fix this or do you think it might be a crack? its not a bad leak, juts a few small drops. other than that the truck runs smooth, and drives well. the oil and tranny flid are good, both look recently new.
Man an xl no options for 10900? i smell a rat, and its not the dealer selling it... Obviuosly your young and want whats there now
but thats your choice.. Later you'll learn patience. Oh also the kbb
tells you what you would expect to pay at a dealer.
Even thought the 2002 is a dodge, it should still trade for a lot better than a 96 base model truck. Whats the setup on your dodge, and what dont you like about it?
the dodge is an 02 sl. no power anything. swb, v6. auto 2wd. cant go in the grass after the morning dew without spinning for ten minutes. the torque converter is going bad, it slips to 2grand before moving...its only bringing in around 9 grand anyways on a trade in. i paid 14500 used, and its still losing value
I can understand you wanting to trade, but 10,900 seems reallly high for this truck, or at least compared to what one would bring here in central illinios. I wouldnt go over 7000, but thats just me. I paid 5600 for my '95 F-150 4x4 xtl ext cab with 118,000 miles and i couldnt be happier with it. It took me 5 months to find the right truck and it was worth the wait. It sounds like a nice truck, just not 10 grand nice. You might be better off waiting to find a better bargain. well just my 2 cents. Hope you end up with a nice truck.

i agree with fordd4x4.
in my opinion, fix your dodge, fix the trans and get some use out of it. it is like anything else, enjoy what you have, save up for what you really want, you will see what you have is not as bad as you think.
"it has a locker in the rear so its hard to back up and turn." is this normal? when it was new did the saleman say this will make noise at this time. i do not think so.
price an exhaust system.
like the man with no shoes, he complained until he met a man with no feet.
or , just buy it and put another 5,000 into it and then post how much you wish you had listened to all of us.
the truck sounds like a 6000 to 7000 truck. if you are in love with it, get it.
take this to a mechanic, get an estimate on all it needs. subtract 2x that from price.
just my opinions, but i have a few years on me and am trying to help.
