I run mine 24/7 all season long. I ran it all year long season before, even in the winter and had no problems with start-up last summer(2004). This winter I removed the pump and drained the filter and pool because it needs a new liner.

My pool guy always told me that you want to "turn the water over" everyday. In other words, filter the entire pool once. I took the pool capacity in gallons (16,000), and divided it by the pump capacity (50gpm, I think). That's 320 minutes, or 5.33 hours. I set the pump to run 6 hours, so I figure I'm covered. That works here in the North; you may have to run it longer if you live closer to the equator, and therefore the sun.

jeff is correct about the time. but there is no way i would run mine 24/7 it costs too much. my high head pump draws 18 amps and the booster draws 15 so its 45 amps X .085 so it costs me 14.00 almost for every 5 hours! my bill is already a grand a month. the pool is 20,100 gallons and the high head pump can pump 150 gph. there is also a 600 gallon spa attached to it. i only run it when its warm like in the summer or spring.

I just use a house timer on our pool...been using it for 3 years without incident. I believe it's actually made by Timex...nothing special. Our timer is set to run our pump for 30 minutes out of every hour.
