The Walker down pipe is just a convient way of connecting a pair of EFI exhaust manifolds to your existing converter and/or muffler. The EFI manifolds flow much better than the stock "log" type exhaust manifold.

I have no experience with full exhaust headers. But, I feel that the EFI manifolds flow almost as well as headers without the traditional problems of getting the header flanges to consistantly seal with the block. Additionally, the EFI manifolds are cheap, usually you can find them for less that fifty dollars and they have a boss for the EGR tube built right in.

Here's a picture of mine with the EFI exhaust manifolds bolted up to it.

so is there any real advantage to having one if you already have the efi manifolds?

No, If you already have EFI, your existing exhaust pipe and the Walker replacement are the same for practical purposes.

Nope, I haven't put mine on yet. Im still collecting parts. I'll be putting them on when I rebuild the engine. Hopefully someone else will tell you whats involved with installing them. Fred

I have EFIs and Walker down pipe on my 82 F-250. I also used an Offy "C" intake.

To answer your question, You remove the old intake and exhaust manifolds. If you use the OEM intake and carb you will need to grind on the mounting tabs on the intake to get the two to bolt-up. I have had people tell me that they did not grind anything. But on my OEM intake the EFIs would not match without grinding. As for the Offy, it and the EFIs mounted fine and no grinding. And again some people have said they need to grind some to fit this combo. I think the difference may be used and warped parts.

In gerenal it is an unbolt and rebolt deal.

5_labsownus thanks for you input. I have a 95 f-150 and I don't know too much about the motor other that it has 160,000 and shows no signs of giving up any time soon. The exhaust manifolds are showing signs of rust real bad. Mostly because I don't drive it as much as I should. Anyway I am hesitant about changing the manifolds because I don't know what to expect. Now I know the intake manifold must come off. Is there anything special I should know about that process?

I just got my set of EFI manifolds in with the downpipe off the donor truck. I havn't started the process yet. What did you guy do about the EGR situation? https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...=31169&width=0 That is a very old pic of the motor, it looks much better now but it gives you all an idea of how the EGR is and the tube going from it to the manifold. Did you guys just do without the EGR or get another tube made for it? Another thing, did you guys reuse the old studs and bolts to put your intake and exhaust maifolds on or did you buy new ones?

im wondering does the efi/walker combo work for a truck with an auto tranny? ive noticed on my log manifold there is a bracket that holds the kick down lever for the tranny. do efi maifolds have this bracket? i have efi manifolds on my 78, but its a manuel and the exhaust work had been done before i bought it

The EGR plumbing can be accomplished using off-the-shelf gas pipe fittings available from hardware stores like Home Depot or Lowes. Those stores carry corrugated stainless steel pipes for hooking up gas water heaters.

The following snap shot may give you a pretty good idea of how the gas pipe fits between the exhaust manifold and the EGR valve.
