hey ,,,,
when I push hard on the gas the thruck stalls then picks up....it comes real close to failing then picks back up......it also has a hard time idling when you first crank it in the morning......i just had carb rebuilt....and i just overhauled my dizzy....any suggestions?......i'm running a 351m in a 1978 ford ranger.......I would love to smooth the engine out and make it more responsive to accelleration.....any help is appreciated......thanx
sorry i was not clear.....i did not remove the dizzy....I just replaced the pickup, cap and rotor, the truck was acting up before that in the exact same way....but it was really after my carb rebuild that it started have bad accelleration problems.....i know it could be one of many things...and I have researched the manual...I guess I looking for someone who has experienced the same problem.....a little help......
I would begin with checking the accelerator pump on the carb. Is it getting a good shot? - If not, it could cause the symptom you describe. With the engine off, take off your air cleaner, hold the choke butterfly open and quickly open the accelerator linkage to wide open. You should see two good streams of gas shooting down from the center front of the throttle bore as you open the throttle. If you don't, that is where to begin troubleshooting.
i checked the accellerator pump and it checked out ok
it had two real strong squirts of fuel
any other suggestions?
could it be a vaccuum problem (vaccuum advance)
when I first start it -it will die unless i keep punching the gas and sometimes it will still die even so---once it warms up it will start up with no problems-but the accelrationthen slips on the highway---if I punch it to make a light (for example)
i stall for about a second or two then it picks up..........
Did you replaced the power valve as well?
if so, look at the no imprint on it. it should be 6-7. if it's lower than 6, or higher than 9 than that is you're problem.
