I have noticed a slight power loss over the past while.Engine is slow to respond, turbo is slow to spool up-after 2000 rpm. With my foot into it and a fairly good load Im getting a fair bit of black exhaust smoke. After a good highway run and a few hills with a load, power and response is better.
No boost leaks,no fault codes, fresh filters.I am starting to think my exhaust has too much backpressure-possibly the muffler is plugging up.
Question-does anyone know the reccomended and maximum exhaust back pressure specs?
If I go to a straight exhaust-no muffler, has anyone had troubles with the 99 7.3 turbo's with the exhaust backpressure system on the turbo hot housing.
There is a sensor and pressure line on the rh ex manifold-I have heard they can be cleaned, others say just replace-any info would be helpfull.Thank's
A very easy way to verify your muffler suspicions is to disconnect the flange at the downpipe outlet. On my truck it's two bolts and the whole thing just separates. You'll remove all back pressure from the exhaust that way. Go drive it and see if it's any better. Yes it will be louder, but not intolerable. If no changes you can be sure that the problem is not in the exhaust.
