My 97 7.3 has anitfreeze in the oil and is also getting in the exhaust. My mechanic thought it was the right side head gasket, but he replaced it and still the same problem. Does anybody have a suggestion on trying to find the problem? Need Help!!
Does the radiator have a lot of pressure when running or air bubbles that never stop? Was there anything that led up to this, overheated? Was the top of any of the pistons real clean as compared to the others?
How did he "think" it was the passenger side bank??? Any one can think its that side, but a leak down test, and a visualy will only be the real way to tell. do a pressure test on the coolant system. could also be the oil cooler. could also be the drivers side is bad. how do you know its in the exhaust???
He took the exhaust off and it smoked heavy on the pass. side. After a pressure test, it starts hard and smokes terrible through the exhaust, and you can smell anitfreeze. Is there any good way to check the oil cooler? The driver side did not smoke with the exhaust off. To pull the pan and check that way for a leak you have to pull the motor.
The radiator holds pretty good pressure, and I havent noticed any air bubbles. The only thing that lead up to this was the temp gauge was a little higher than normal, but that was due to the anitfreeze loss. Once I refilled the overflow tank, it would run cool until it would leak back down. The only other problem was a miss in the motor at low rpm....which i assumed was due to the anitfreeze in a cylinder. The pistons all looked normal.
Gotta be a cracked head or he messed up the head gasket job. I can't think of any other route for the coolant to go without getting oil in the coolant as well.
