wide vs narrow/small side trim differences.

Hey I noticed that on some 73-79 fords some people have a wide chrome trim going down the side of the truck (where the indent is at) the trim is alluminum with black in the center. I also noticed now there is a narrow trim that is only silver and is only 1/2 as wide. I would liek to get this kind of trim for my truck. Do you know what years this narrow trim was for? Also Do you know where i can buy this trim? I think it looks alot nicer the the wider trim.
thanks,
Jimmy

Both were comon with 1973 to 1979 trucks.

The narrower chrome trim is what the Custom and certain Rangers had and was concidered the "Poor Boys" chrome trim, of the two.

Ranger and Ranger xlt and Lariat had the wider trim. The wider trim on the Ranger xlt and lariat from 1973 to 76 also had another set of Large trim that ran along the bottom of the truck and had wheel lip moldings.

The 1977 to 79 had a small "Race Track" trim that was a few inches from the bottom of the truck and didn't have wheel lip molding with this style. I loved this style especially with Silver on Black tu-tone! YUM!

Ebay will have it now and then, just key in 79 Ford . I just bought some for mine from ebay , just to get the specialty fasteners that came with it. Thankfully people realize this trim is in demand and are not junking it out with the parts trucks.

It also seems very popular on stepsides. There are 4 stepsides in my area and 3 of them have this trim, the other one doesnt have any trim. I see this trim on fleetsides sometimes also.
