Hi Y'all. I was wondering if somebody could help me out. I have a '71 F600 with a '74? 361 or 391 (D4TE) engine with more than a few problems. I was thinking about swapping engines but dont know what other engines would bolt up to this bellhousing and trans. The trans is a New Process 435. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also I know whatever engine that will fit needs to be a low rpm, high torque engine so it wont mess with the gear ratios, this F600 is a dump truck. Thanks again for any help you can give.

The engine you refer to is an FE industrial block. 330/331/361/391/428 CID industrial engines will bolt in.
These engines use 4 ring pistons. Perhaps simply rebuilding it might be the answer to your numerous problems. There are rebuild kits available for them.
Thanks for the info! I checked online some for rebuild kits and was surprised how expensive they were ( it's been a very long time since I have rebuilt an engine!)...around $700 +. Since I'm a poor boy,I was hoping I could use a cheaper and/or more readily available engine,( I can get back for free a Lincoln 460, that I gave to friend a while back, but it has a rod knocking.)....
My engine runs fair but when I tried to replace an exhaust manifold gasket,I broke 7 of the 10 bolts off in the head. I have tried about everthing,& have broken drill bits, easy outs, even tried a cutting torch, and so far I have got 1 bolt drilled out. By the way,I got the manifold off in about 15 pieces. I also checked online for a rebuilt head- $400 + $150 core charge each, and $1865-$2495 for a rebuilt long block. Aaaaahhhh!!!!
Like I said I'm a poor boy, but at least I know what to look for now. I apprecate the information you gave me! ps. sorry bout being so long winded

If this truck is your daily driver you can forget about swapping engines... its takes a lot of money and time to do a swap involving different engine families. Any FE (330, 352, 360, 390, 406, 410, 427, 428) will have the same bellhousing pattern. I am pretty sure you will have to build perches for motor mounts, because the FEs utilize a different setup than the FTs.
Thanks for the info! A friend of a friend told me about a truck salvage yard where he thinks he can get me a complete 330 or 391 in pretty good running cond for around $600-$700 .I think that will be my best bet for now, I need this baby up and running ASAP for the least amount of money( like I said ,I'm a poor boy)Thanks again for the help, I really need it(at least that's what my Dr. keeps telling me)...........unclefudd71
800 for a used engine way too much. find a 360 of 390 and drop it in it does not need to be a ft engine lots of people have used engines out of cars and trucks in dump trucks with no problems the fe engines are very tough engines. and they will be a direct bolt up just drop it in.
