Has anyone else build and price a 2006 F-350 with the V10 selected on fordvehicles.com. It is only available in very limited peramiters. There was another post about the lack of a V10 and sport package combo. It is still the case is 2006 and now it is not available with the lariet trim, only XL and XLT. Is Ford getting less and less sales due to fuel prices and slowly but surely fazing out the V10?
I think most of the V10's are going to motorhomes. From my recent motorhome looking most of the gas one's have Ford V10's. Also, Ford has just brought out a new F53 motorhome chasis for the 3valve V10. This new motorhome chasis is designed to have the V10 mounted lower in the frame to lower the center of gravity. Anyway that's my guess.
Each of the model years Ford creates a buying guide that is for the dealers not us private owners. Bobby Williams of Sunrise Ford Southern California puts these guides on the web for us. http://www.sunrisefordfleet.com/
If you check out the guides you will see on the first page Fords recommended build listing in percents and you then will see they predict about 14% of the run to be V10 and it runs down hill from there with the different mix of chassis, cabin, trim, etc.
I do not detect these guides to be regional but they are general guidelines. And based on them I see that Ford then can predict how many of a specific motor, trany or other major component to contract for from the various suppliers.
From 99 to present Ford has always recommended about a 13-15% mix of V10 motor for the dealers to order. Ford does not closely track private owner orders because they all go in under the dealers code so they just treat all orders as dealer mix and so they don't see any demand trends from those of us that want this motor deliberately.
I do not get the sense that Ford is in a hurry to "orphan" the V10 because the upgrades in 05 were serious and extensive. But I can get no clear indication that this motor will last for 20+ year run of production either.
The do make a lot of V10s for Ag water pumps and generators. And the Chassis cab, uplifter, motor-coach, and other unique usages are a steady V10 gas motor market due to the very good HP to weight ratio. A PSD in a motor coach kills a LOT of pay load just because the thing is 400lbs heavier.
Maybe someone can help me understand why when i built 2 identical trucks. One being an F350 the other and F250. When i selected the V10 it took away the chrome package on the F350? And is there anyway to get daytime running lights? I see the fleet trucks have them. I like having my lights on all the time for safety but have a very bad habbit of forgetting they are on and end up coming back to a dead battery.
Not sure what source web site your are "build 2 identical trucks" but my experience is that the Ford sponsored site was more accurate with the options and the Edmunds site was much more realistic on pricing BUT both sites never did get it totally right on every option configuration. In fact after screwing around for over a month on both sites I finally went to my dealer to ordered that the "Official Computer based order system" was all hosed up too for my 2005 KR build. I had to argue a LOT with my senior sales manager that the computer was wrong on the Tow Command Option and the Integrated Trailer Brake Controller option. Long story short.... we put in the order and once my truck arrived I proved to Ford they screwed me out of $471 for the one option and got a refund (this is different issue than the Conti Track refund that I also got back)
My point is that all the systems are hosed and once you have a firm idea what you want get in tight with a competent sales order guy and try to build it on their computer.
Additionally the order guides on the link above are pretty good if you closely read the notes and asterisks. Do Not be afraid to call Jeff, or Bobby, or Polarbear for clarification. The new buyers forum above and the new buyer forum at the diesel site are EXCELLENT resources for options and pricing, rebate info.
Ya i agree with you. I don't consider anything concrete till a dealer can give me build sheet. I just use Fords website to get a pretty close rough est. on what the trucks going to cost me. And i was trying to see if there was going to be that much of a price difference between the F350 and F250. I figure once i'm realistically ready to have my truck built i'd talk to the few local dealerships and then to the above mentioned and see where it takes me.
Might have to use the excuse of buying a truck to go see my relatives out in Oregon since the bums can't ever seem to make it to the Central US. Course i can't blame them it's just flat out here.

I'm not sure what Year you have (no sig) But I think that most have an automatic kill time after certain number of minutes. I haven't tried the head lights yet but I know my dome light will automatically shut of after a while as I've accidentally tried this a few times already.
I don't have a truck yet, i'm looking into possibly ordering an '06. But it prolly won't be till in the fall. I love reserching as much as possible as soon as possible so i can make my notes. As late as i might end up having to order my truck i might just wait long enough to see what the so called rucus is on the '07. If it looks anything like the Tonka concept truck i'll prolly get an '06.
You have the right Idea and plan only thing I would say is keep a close eye on the buyers forums and pay attention to "last order in dates" for 06s this year. 2006 is already an odd year with a very early Job 1 date and rumor has it the swap to 07 will be early.
Ya that's why i'm starting to ask the ?'s now. I know we dont have a crystal ball so i'm not asking for exactness. But is there any rumor as to when a person should start seeing the '07's at the big car show's? I'm figuring or hoping it to be around Fall.
My 2006 F350 Lariet Crew Cab Long Bed Dually was ordered from the book. The Chrome Package was available, although I chose not to order it. The Lariet also has the adjustable headlight delay on it. However, I'm not sure an XLT would have it.
