Shorty Headers

I didn't really try just leaving the cat. on without a muffler, but my muffler had real big holes, does that count? Sounded pretty rough anyhow. But I did try straight from the 'y' pipe and that had quite a sound (nasty).

K&N has a "Filtercharger" replacement where you take all the stock intake crap out and bolt an open faced cone straight to the two intake hoses and it just sucks air in from everywhere. Sounds like people are split on the effectiveness of it. I have one and I believe it helped and it sounds pretty neat. Cost me about $250 tho. So maybe I convinced myself it worked just so I didn't feel like such a sucker.

These were the first headers I bought (Hedman's) and they came with gaskets and everything. Pretty cheap that yours didn't. they all should I think.

I'm not convinced about the cone filters. I would prefer to draw air from outside the engine compartment as apposed to drawing the heated air. Cooler air burns better.

Yeah, I've heard that from quite a few people about the cool air factor. I have grill inserts from Lund in all the time summer and winter. All except one at the bottom corner driver's side. I'm going to take them all out and see if that may improve anything. Sounds like something pretty minor but we'll see what happens, you never know.

Glad to hear you finally won the battle with those headers. Did you upgrade your exhaust size yet? Also are those header tubes all the same length?

They are the regular shortys not equal length. Nothing but the stock pipes for now, I'm going to upgrade maybe with a cat back. But don't know if I want the duals or not, probably will.
I noticed my low end sluggishness has faded some with the headers, can't wait till I get the rest of the exhaust done.

I have Lund inserts too, but mine have the holes in them. Kind of like a screen front. Had them for almost 3 years. I like them.

You might want to look into a hi perf. cat. then. When I looked through mine after I cut it off I could only see a pinhole of light at the other end so I figure it was plugged up pretty good. The exhaust used to stink bad too with the cat. Now that I have the cat off and all runs great without, I wouldn't pay for another one.
