Hi, my 78 truck has a 302 that recently began idling rough (park or drive) and stumbles at cruise speed. It also stalled completely once. I parked it and after only about 30 seconds, I was able to restart it and 'limp' back to the house. I replaced the fuel filter, but it didn't remedy the problem. I am not even so sure that this is a fuel problem, but maybe electrical. I hope that someone can help me here. Thanks!
I would start with a compression test and see what you got. No point looking for a simple problem if you have a major one. If these #'s are reasonable then...
air/fuel: bad pump (check pressure and volume), clogged jets, clogged pickup, vacuum leak, bad gas.
got good healthy spark and at the right time?
It may be time for a tune-up A new set of plugs/wires/cap/rotor can do wonders.
GL, welcome to FTE, check back if you need more info.
