Ultimate Cooty-Bob contest?

I enjoyed the "dumbest thing I ever did" thread, and I just came across a striking example of cooty-bob'ing by the PO (previous owner). Thought I would throw it out, see what other "backyard engineering" is out there.

I purchased a set of clutch shaft bushings a long time ago, just because they were cheap and I figured they'd be needed sooner or later. The clutch actually worked pretty smoothly, replacing the bushings wasn't high on my list. But today I had to pull the shaft to route a new fuel line along the frame. When I started degreasing it, my first thought was, Oh crap, it's not like the one in the manual. Instead of two bronze bushings, a piece of steel fell out. After all was clean, I realized the PO had put a piece of hose clamp in the socket to replace the totally worn out bushings! Left to right, new bushings, what's left of the old bushings, and the hose clamp.

Anxiously awaiting your stories!

I don't have the pictures of it, but the PO of my truck had done some interesting "updates" to the rear suspension. On one side of the truck the pins for the leaf spring were completely gone, in their place was a 5/8" bolts. the only thing that kept them from falling out were the flanges on the bed side where they hang down below the spring hangars. The shock mounts were very similar

But check out the following picture of the current owners set-up. I might add that this was all temporary so I could fire the engine and drive it around the block to check power brakes, steering, etc. Note: the PVC upper radiator hose, and the DOT approved fuel tank, not to mention the lovely heater hose. All of these have since been removed and taken care of...........lol

I loved the pictures and the "engine"new-ity in both. Did the truck drive ok with the special setup? lol.

I drove it around the block a couple of times, enough to get the neighbors attention (did I mention that the exhaust was only 6" long at the time?) I have updated a few things since then. I now have a real fuel tank residing between the frame in the rear and I will fabricate an upper radiator hose assy as soon as I can stuff tha big Caddy back into the truck (hopefully within the next few weeks)
