Stack Heat

Has anyone had any problems with the heat from the stacks in the bed? I'm thinking about stacks or 5" straightpipe. I have the shortbox wondered if stacks create a lot of heat in the bed. I don't want my dog, fishin' pole, or fuel cans to melt. Can you still load up the bed with stuff or do you lose the ability to put anything in the front end of the bed due to heat?

They do get hot. But I have a casket size toolbox behind them so nothing can get to them. I have stacked lumber in the bed touching the spliter pipes with no trouble. But I definatly wouldn't let a fuel can get close. And I don't know, but I'm assuming they would burn fur. If you have a toolbox, I think you would be good to go. But it's not searing heat or anything. I have them real close to my headache rack and haven't discolored any paint or anything like that. Get the stacks, you'll love them.

Rubberducks right. I have a tool box in mine to. But anything plastic touching them is a no no. If you did it you could build a wall across the bed to keep things away. And ya you'll love them. Had mine for over a year and never regreted it.!!

they get hot enough that when it rains it steams. just be good about what you pu tnext to them and you'll be fine. i'd rather have fuel cans at the rear of the bed anyways....you could build the wall out of diamond-plate or sheetmetal and jsut do some vent holes across the top maybe.

I have seen 450* with my hand held pyrometer at the base a few times. wasnt really hard driving either, just coming home from work, 600-800* pre turbo temps were the norm. I would bet there pretty hot when your running 1100* pre trubo though.

I have melted pop bottles, and my buddy melted his bed liner a lil bit, but I do worry alot when I have to carry gas cans around.

Do any of you have the shortbox? Stacks and toolbox must leave you with about a 4' bed.

i have a long-bed and the stacks with plenty of room to spare and my toolbox take up about 3 foot. maybe a tad less. its all pretty spaced out, but i still got enough room still to pile a mess of tree brush in the back. granted, just being careful not to throw any big stuff too far forward and knock the piping.
