i just wanted to get some opinions on my latest little project...i pulled out the 460 in my 76 F-150, tore it down enough to clean her out and replace all the gaskets, put in a new timing chain, cleaning as i went.. then i painted the engine Ford Blue and most brackets and accessories gloss black...while that was curing i got down and dirty and started scraping the engine bay of 28 years worth of grime.....got it clean, sprayed down the frame rails and fenderwells with undercoat, then hit them with some black gloss....i think it turned out pretty good.. i got it done just in time for our local chapter meet, everyone was surprised because it was pretty dirty before, and i didnt tell anyone i was doing it!! now that she's all together she purrs like a tiger and has bite to back it up!!! here is a link to my gallery, the first 7 or 8 pics are before and after shots of the engine bay...rate them and tell me what you think.........thanx.........
HOW many totall hours you think it took to do all that, from taking the engine out to cleaning the engine bay, etc....
Nice work, wish I could make myself do that.

i wish i knew, it took me 5 days to do it, but i was working on it in my free time between customers at the garage i work at......i would guess about 25-30 hours including allowing time for the paint to set up, but thats just a guess.....my inspiration for this project was that i needed her running good so i can haul the boat for 2 hours to the lake for the 4th of july, plus ive been waiting for a couple years to get it done.......thanks for the compliment......
not to hijack the thread but what do u guys think of my little project on my engine. ull have to look at my gallery i cant figure out how to get the little link up sry
Looks good....I'm getting ready to do the same to mine in a couple of months. Gotta deployment, so it will have to wait till I get back. You said you put under coating on? Was it the spray on kind or roll on. I thought about putting undercoating on, but unsure which would work better.
That's what I was hoping for... I just didn't want to spend money on the spary stuff and it not work well. I just really don't want to take the cab off, so that will make the job much easier....
i used the spray kind, it coated real well, but you cant touch it for a long time.....im giving mine a couple weeks before i test its durability....i know even after a day or two it will still "roll" off if you rub against it...after the undercoat dried, i sprayed gloss black over it and it kinda looks like spray on bed liner, i know it isnt as tough, but it looks like it is!!!
BTW...SwOkcOffRoader...I was stationed there at Tinker AFB back in 97...nice area!!! Really miss it!!
i live just right up the road from Tinker, moved to Midwest City cause i was working there as a painter, no sooner than i got moved here they laid me off due to cutbacks... ...figures!!! your right though, its a nice area and ill probably live here awhile.........
