Transmission issues
I have a 2001 Exceursion with 86000 miles on it, I am having an issue when it is shifting through gears. It sounds like something is cluncking when you start off and also when it shifts though gears. I am not sure what to do, I needs some advice on whether I should take it to a transmission shop or not.

Have you checked the fluid level and condition recently? It could simply be low and the parts aren't getting the full lubrication that they need. If it's never been serviced and the fluid is ok, I would recommend taking it to a shop to diagnose the problem before a disaster occurs. Usually what starts out as a small noise can lead to bigger, more expensive problems.

My tranny is starting to give me problems also. When I shift into reverse, sometimes it engages and sometimes it takes a while, like 5 seconds. All the other gears work fine, just wondering if your problems started taht way too.

It happened the same way for me, it was fine one day and then the next it was like it is messing up in the sequence from gear to gear. If I manually put the car in first or second there is no issue, just if it is in drive and the automatic is shifting gears.
