I was reading the thread about pneumatic nailers. Does anyone have an opinion about palm nailers? I work on old houses and barns somtimes, and need to switch nail sizes often. Haven't used one yet.
They are terrific. They will even do those really big spikes. Its the best thing around the galvanized joist hangers and what has already been said about tight places. Count it as a great investment
As noted they are great for adding joist hangers and hurricane braces to roofs and foundations in older houses. Especially ones built on 10 and 12 inch centers. It sure beats screws.
On some building codes you are required to add cross braces between joists so the garage ceiling under a house does not accordian. It works great for placing those short 12" boards into place.
They work very well. We use them to drive 16d and 20d commons into straps and other assorted framing hardware. The brand I trust is Danair. They invented the palm nailer in the first place I believe and still manufacture them. I think they are based in Nevada these days.
From 3d to 12" spikes (Danair's statement), US made for $122. I had the chance to use one on a house remodel, sad day when I had to return it.

they work, but are slow. they are a one shot nailer.
they work great in old construction in places that a regular nailgun won't fit or in tight places where you can't swing a hammer.
