I bought a HF air brad nailer/stapler, 2" 18gauge for less than 20bucks and it worked great.
I was skeptical at first since it is much cheaper than the brand names, but it helped me do baseboards and cabinet trim molding for a 1700sf townhome with out a flaw and in no time. It would of taken 4 times as long with a hammer.
If anyone is interested it is item number 40116.
Most of these tools are made in the same place, and should work as designed.
So I would say you did good.
I used a company jigsaw on Monday, and it IS a Bosch in a plain vanilla wrapper. BTW, it was rebadged as a Chicago brand something or other.
I bought the same nailer while on sale and I'm also very pleased with it. Already shot two boxes of Porter nails no problem, hanging moulding, door trim, and various other things. What I thought was a really nice "feature" is that mine came with two sets of o-rings as spares, AND an additional hammer assembly for when the original one breaks/bends/snaps. It's nice to be able to rebuild it someday and have the parts included to do so, and not have to toss it and buy another. Though for $20 that wouldn't really be that big of a deal.
It was on sale when I bought it too. I can't remember if the sale price was 20 or the list price.
I need to get a framing nail gun next.
Anyone have one of the hf brands?
Steve, I have two of Harbor Freights framing nailers. Though I would not buy them for heavy duty work they have done a very good job building three barns as well as many other projects over the last two years. The ones I have are model 97510-0VGA and model 93912-1VGA. These are placed on sale pretty often as well.
A lot of the harbor freight stuff is good for the average joe doing around the house stuff but when you get to commercial work it just doesn't do it, Yes I've heard, seen and actually do have a couple of items from them that have stood the test of time, IE my Pitsburg Impact Sockets I've had now 9 years and haven't roken one yet, my starter remote switch I use for testing 24 volt turbine starters, my long reach needle noses. I abuse everything I own though so enough said on that.
if you want the sale price just go to their web site and print the web add for that item (the web price is usually the sale price or lower) take the add to the store and ask for a price match. I have done it many times.
Is that the "purple" handled nailer that they sell? If so I think that they were on sale at mt HF for $9.99 the other day when I was there. they about 100 of them on a table for sale.
I always laughed at HF tools in general. There air tools seemed way under priced for such a gun. How good can something be when it is so cheap? I have two Bostich stapler and brad nailer. I have one porter cable finish nailer.
After saying that a buddy of mine was building a new two car garage. He wanted to buy a framing nailer. He asked me what brand to look at. I said porter cable. He went to the store and fell over at the price. I said you get what you pay for! He went to HF and baught one for $89. I laughed. The damn thing built that garage, his neighbors garage, and a friend used it to build his addition. I was surprised and impressed.
Thats how I felt to. I wondered how could something that cost less than 20 bucks do the same thing as the ones that cost 60 bucks or more?
I guess it is like others said. If you are in the trade and plan to really use it for years and your livelyhood depends on it, pay for the premium ones.
If it is for hobby/recreational/part time use, Harbor Freight is good enough to get the job done.
