Unhappy tranny damage????

2004 FX4 Center Console

I pulled a real idiot move today. I was in a rush to get home, and in my haste, I shifted from park straight to 2nd gear, jumped on the highway, and drove that way for about 2 miles, at about 65-70MPH. Tranny has about 20,000 miles on it, haven't changed the fluid yet. Something didn't feel right, I looked down and cursed at myself. Shifted up to Drive, everything seems to be running fine now. Any chance I did damage? Yup, I feel stupid.

I kinda doubt it. Amoung other things, using the second gear lowers the engine output, to make it easier to pull out in snow or sand.
If you had driven much over 70 (about 4800 RPM) the rpm limiter would have kicked in.

I would be more concerned about wear on the engine. Still, if you were towing a fifth wheel up the Grapevine, you would put more wear on the truck than 1-2 miles at 4500? RPM in second.

You didn't hurt anything. You just started and ran in 2nd gear.

Everythings probably ok with it, but just to reassure yourself you can pull the dipstick and check the fluid level and condition. If it's gritty or smells odd, there could be a problem. As long as the trans didn't overheat, it shouldn't have had any damage occur.
