hey i was thinking about getting a chip for my truck, has anyone done it, if so what you get. a big concern i have with getting one is will i kill my transmition, i have heard from some guys that they had to replace the trani after they got one. i was wondering what you guys all thought about getting one, ya or na.
i already have headers, exhaust, air intake, and gears, for the most part everything but a supercharger. i wish i had the money to stroke itm but out of luck
well from what i think i know..the chips give u firmer shifts, which from what i hear is supposed to make ur trany last longer. another thing is, is that you'll prolly end up running premium. unless u get one from diablo that has 3 programs and a selector switch, 1 is stock 2 is medium regular gas, then the 3rd is custom programed to get the max outta ur setup on premium. mayb u should get a cam, then get the chip so get the biggest bang for your buck
Woz, correct, i have a 1992 351xlt and installed a superchip. It has made the tranny shift firmer and added 25hps . This power is unnoticable but the firm shifting is a good addition. Diablo is not or was not available for our year truck. I knew i was going with other mods and if this was an everyday driver premium fuel gets exspensive( yes u do have to run it with the chip).TR
using a chip to make the trannys shifts firm is not good for the e4od. you will decrease the life of that tranny. you need to build the tranny internally if you want that type of behavior to get dependability as well.
big92 fill out your sig with info on your rig that way we know what you have and done to your rig . this helps us help you. you might look into heads next and what kind of exhaust work have you done to your rig?
The SCT chip (per Ken) is programmable for multiple environments. An E4od responds very well to a Trans-go or B&M shift kit to enhance longevity, not a chip to put it into performance mode. I have 253,000 on my F250 with a chip and Tranny kit. Kem is on the correct track as well when advising a comprehensive enhancement, not a bandaid in one area. Do the things that balance the intake/exhaust at an optimum level. Keep and eye on the torque figures as you enhance your mill. Based on Ken's posts and input, I am going to go with an SCT chip in Project Bronco and stick with the B&M shift kit I've had such good luck with for so long. An FIPK, 56MM throttle body, shorty headers or long headers and a planned exhaust system will reap great benefits when coupled with the Chip/tranny kit. Tailor your efforts to the type driving you do. Off road, monster torque or DD, an even balance. The only way you're gonna get any tuning options is with a programmable chip like the SCT on an OBDI truck.
