i reacently bought an 87 f150 4x4 with a 302boss. As i am not a mechanic only mechanically inclined i could use some help. if anybody knows a website devoted to the 302boss i would be most appreciative.
thanks in advance

You better look at the engine a little bit more closely. Look at some of the stickers on the engine if there are any. See what they say. There is a major visual difference between the 302 and Boss 302. The 302 has valve covers that almost look like half hearts and uses 6 valve cover bolts. The Boss 302 top end looks like a cleveland, it has bigger rectangular valve covers with 8 bolts. Check and see what the engine looks like. I don't think someone would go through all the trouble and process of fabrication to put a stock efi set up on an old Boss 302. Unless it was a show truck. The boss 302's I think were only available 69 and 70. So there were only carburators and the ever so rare cross boss. I doubt its a cross boss. I think the boss 302's used a wider intake than the standard 302 so I think putting a truck or any kind of EFI onto a boss would be a challenge. Unless you really wanted to do it and had the $$, anything is possible.
People who say it can't be done should not interrupt the person doing it.
i had a friend look at it (he builds old mustangs up and races them on the 1/4 mile drag). he said it looks like it could be a boss with the stock intake. so im not really sure. is there a way to tell by the vin on the motor, and if so where is it on the motor. ive looked but there is 14 years of spilt oil, road dirt, and mud all over the motor. i was trying to see if the vin matched the truck or not.
You have to drop the starter and there will be a number on the block. If it is the correct block for the truck the first few digits in the number should be E7T or maybe E6T. Remember what I said about the valve covers. Count how many bolts holds one on, and what shape they are. Perfectly rectangular or kind of heart shaped.

Looked at the heads, the valve covers are rectangular, but have six bolts. Talked to another friend that knew the guy who owned the truck said it was a 302 BOSS. So I am just totally lost....
Will pull the starter off..just not tonight..too many beers to late.
