Got a 1999 V10 F-250 super duty with 85,000 miles. Just bought the truck used last Feb. After shutting if off I hear a funny noise going on under the hood after the engine is shut off. Sounds liike a little motor running for about 10 secs or so. Just wondering if anyone knows what that noise might be?
The IAC might do that. Do you have any problems with the idle? Does it "hunt" a little bit, or try to die when putting it in gear? Does it idle high for a longer time than you'd think it should?
The IAC is Idle Air Control - it's a little motor that allows air to bypass the throttle plate, so the computer can control the idle. When you turn off the motor, the computer might (and I'm theorizing here, but I've heard that noise in other cars) completely open the IAC when shutting down.
well that's what it has to be. My truck idles normally no problems with the engine or anythijng else. Runs perfect. Just for the noise of that IAC. Where is it located on the engine. Maybe it could use some lub to quiet it up.
