Need to find hinges for a '56 model. Would like to find one for it to raise to the front. Problem is the hinge would have to cause the hood to raise up also to avoid the winch.
didn't really give me a local to find, project is my dad's that I am probably going to take over. 56 Ford sitting on a 78 frame with a 400M, 44's. Have most everything to finish. He stopped at the hood and got frustrated over this. Of course he threw away the original hinges when he stripped it for some reason.
New 56 hinges are available from a number of suppliers including Mid Fifty. Note the 56 hinges are different from the earlier ones in that they used larger shoulder bolts where they attach to the hood. I doubt the available front hinge kits will move the hood forwards enough to clear a winch, such hinges would need to be custom fabricated.

Hey, just picked up my '56 today that I plan to put on a '78 frame. Sure would appreciate your advice, step-by-step what you needed to do to make the '56 work on the '78 frame , whatever else you can offer. I'm at vanhilla att pacifier dott communist.
I hate to put a damper on putting the 56 on a 78 frame you guys. It's really quite easy.I,ve done it and the truck is still around.I put it on a 78 4x4 Bronco chassis.Just lengthened the frame 7 in for the right wheelbase. Here is the problem. It was the worse riding truck I've ever been in.That thing would jar your teeth over the smallest bump.I tried different front springs and finally to give it some sort of decent ride I ended up putting very soft car shocks on the front. But that didn't work very well off road.
??? !!! This may sound dumm, but why would a different cab and bed make that much difference in the ride? What I have is a '78 F-150 4x4 short wide box 4 speed 300ci six. Not the greatest riding truck, but not a buckboard either.
56 has shorter wheelbase and is about 1000 LBS lighter.I also forgot to mention if you really want to do this the Bronco frame is very much like the 56 frame with almost identical curves on top.It doesn't have that dip for the cab like your 78 pick up.78 frame is about 2 in wider if memory serves me.I used all the supports off old frame for body and running boards, then reinstalled them onto the 78 frame.I also channeled the body down over the frame so it looked factory,Just modified the floor a little. The truck was only 2 in taller than stock. But mayby a PU frame would ride better.

If you use your frame you would only have to make the body mounts longer to compensate for the dip in the frame. Also the track is wider on the 78.To compensate for this I widened the rear fenders. The front fenders are OK.I love the 56 and am curently bldg another one.2 wheel drive and oddly enough with a 300 EFI AOD.
