I want to wire a radio into my '77 F-250. I want to wire it into the ignition switch so it will come on when the key is on and go off when they key is turned off. My question is what wire should I splice into on the back of the ignition switch?
Here are the wires.....
~Black with a green stripe
~Yellow
~Purple with a white stripe
~Red with a green stripe
~Red with a green stripe
~Red with a blue stripe
Now I checked in my manual and on the wiring diagram it doesnt show 2 Red with green stripes. It says I am suppossed to have another Black with a green stripe. I checked it 15 times and it is definitely Red with a green stripe. However, the second Red with a green stripe has this written on it...... "Resistor. Do not cut or splice." Can anyone help me out on this one? I just want to have a radio in my truck. Which wire is it?
Thanx.
Also........ The Black with a green stripe wire and the Yellow wire are bigger than the others.
roger that, that is the safest way to go, along with putting an inline fuse in it, use a fuse tap for a switched part of the block and make sure that it has good contact.
I put a Voltmeter in mine a while ago and I found a couple unused factory wires under the dash that were switched, the fuse block as mentioned works good too, I would stay away from hacking into the ignition switch wires.
Thanx guys. I got it all wired up and it sounds great. It was so much easier going through the fuse box than what I was thinking of doing. Thanx for all the info.
Even on the radio delete models, you should still have a "radio plug" to plug the radio into. Just like on my old 1973, with the radio delete.
Infact the truck had plugs for cigar lighter, glove box lamp, had wiring up to behind the seat for the optional cargo light, and dome map lights, and etc.
The plugs are there, you may need a wiring harness to plug into the plug, to finish going to where it needs to go, but the wiring should be there.
