Hello from Arkansas, I need some help !!! I'm doing an engine swap on an 89 Jeep YJ... The inline 6 from Jeep is wimpy an will not last very long( I've cracked a piston already).... So I would like to replace it with a Ford Inline 6,tranny and transfercase... I'm just wondering if there will be any problems with the wiring harness? Anyone seen or heard of this done? I may go through Painless Wiring for a new harness if needed... Jinxed
now there's a 1st!!! somebody called the 4.0 a wimpy motor. what are your plans for the jeep? mud bogging or something that takes a hellacious amount of horsepower? might want to think about a v8 swap if that is the case. as far as the 4.0 jeep being a wimpy engine,I have seen tons of them with over 200,000 miles and heard of some with 300,000 miles and still running strong. my 4.0 in my 92 xj has 180,000 miles on it now and runs strong as ever. it is a 5 speed, and it sees redline quite often when I am going through the gears,no complaints. From what I have heard, ford's 300 inline 6 is too long and heavy for the jeep yj. You can go to www.off-road.com and go to the short-wheel base bbs and ask there or do a search and get more info then you probably will here, this being predominatly a ford forum
Rock Crawling, was what I was doing when I cracked the piston... My Truck has a 300 inline 6 and took it in to recover my Jeep, It has 185,000 on it and no probs...
