I have a '99 F-150 4.6L with 4 speed auto trans. I am experiencing a hard shift between 1st and 2nd gears, most noticable on medium to heavy acceleration. It's hard enough to get rubber when accelerating. It doesn't slip even under heavy loads and is not losing fluid. It is sometimes noticable on the downshift.
Any ideas?
Fluid looks ready to change but does'nt smell burnt. Was last changed at a quick lube type place. That is part of what prompted this post. I took it in for service because of the shift problem and the manager tried to sell me a $1200-2500 overhaul (his figures). Another place I called said it could be as simple as a solenoid. Thought I would check your opions first.
sounds like you have a broken 1-2 accumulator spring.drop the pan and there is a bore about the size of a siver dollar.remove the retaining ringand the cover the bottom spring is probably broke in 2 .get the uppdated 1-2 accumulator spring and piston, and reassy.good luck
