I have a carter AFB carb that i am going to rebuild sometime soon. I was told if it has plastic floats not to put that in the carb cleaning solution, and if they were brass it would be no problem to clean them in the carb dip.
how can you tell the difference in the plastic and brass. (this might sound like a stupid question but i was just wondering. I have never rebuilt a carb before.)
are the brass floats like a shiney brass and the plastic ones like black or something?
You got it - if the brass is tarnished, you can tell because they are metal and hollow. The plastic are like a closed cell foam with a hard outer covering; they won't "ring" when you tap them with your fingernail...
rebuilding this Carter AFB has not been that bad. not all that much in that thing. Everyone has told me that i am doing something that i should leave to the experts. but i have had good luck (so far) hopefull be able to finish it up tonight.
