Whining From Front End
i have an 04 SprCrw XLT 4x4
it has started making an intermittent whining noise from the front drivetrain. The faster you go, the louder it gets. It sounds like two plastic gears grinding together. If i flip the SotF to 4H, the sound stops. Shift back to 2H and sometimes it will be there, sometimes i have to stop before it starts again. It has been in the shop 4 times for this before. the have replaced both hubs, some kind of valve or switch and yesterday they changed all of the vacuum hoses per ford engineer instructions. I went to pick it up, turned in my rental ride, got into my truck and as soon as i took off, i could hear it again. Joe Myers can't seem to fix it, but i left it with them again anyhow.
Has anyone else had this problem or heard about it.
I also have the hood vibration, it has been in three times for that and still vibrates some and YES i have the deflector.
I wish i had my 00 Excursion Limited Ed. all black w/ woodgrain around it with my bad a22 powerstroke back !
Any help or advice will be appreciated.
If both axles move freely, check the front driveshaft moves by hand too, that means it's out of 4x4 at the transfer case.
Get back to this thread with the results of the above...

I'll post back the results of my visit, if any. The problem is so intermittent, I'm not sure what they'll be able to do.
