for starters you need to give us a little more detail about what you want and your truck. Is it a four wheel drive? What size engine do you want? 302,351,etc. I am guessing that you want to replace the engine with an engine that will bolt up to the 4-speed. My uncle has a 1980 F-150 4x4 that came factory with a 302,four speed, and a 4:10 rear end. The engine had 170k miles and started using gallons of oil. He found a wrecked lincoln Continental with a 302 and had approximately 60k miles on it. In order to swap the motors he had to change the intake manifold and carb, and oil pan. Of course in your situation you will need to have motor mounts made/bought.
The 300, 302 and 351W all use the same bolt pattern on the bell housing thus they are interchangable. Though you will have to replace the engine towers on the frame cross member to accept the V-8. You will also have to change the radiator as the necks are on different sides. A larger radiator is also required. The exhaust pipes will also have to be replaced. If you have any kind of camper shell or camper on it, you need to take the exhaust pipes all the way out the back, and off to one side, this will prevent carbon monoxide from getting into the camper. ALso be advised that the flywheel from the 300 will not fit any of the V-8 make sure you get a flywheel with your motor.
If you want to go to a larger motor than a 351W it will require you to change the trans out.
