I just started a new job, they stick me in a ford 350, Cool, I like fords, I own one, It turns out to be a 6.0. Now I have a v 10 in my ex, The best I ever got with it is 14. Usually getting around 12 - 13. Checked out the mileage in the 6.0, got 15.7. Not getting the 25 that we usually hear about, Just thought someone would like a real mpg test on a diesel. Not a bad engine though, but I still like my 10.
Wylecoyote, A lot of people spread BS thick when it comes to fuel economy in a vehicle but in my experience diesel owners spread it the thickest of all . Wrench
Right now locally Diesel is selling for $2.259 per gallon, and ethanol E-10 is $1.959, so that diesel needs to get better mileage just to break even with the gasser, not counting the maintenance costs.

I know what you mean about diesel people, I was camping a couple of weeks ago, guy next to me in a 2002 f250 4x4, CC long box with topper, pulling a 28 ft TT with a slide out. Told me he gets 25 solo and 13-15 towing...
Lady I work with has 350 X cab short box, says she gets 30 in town.
I just smile and tell them how quiet my truck is, and how fun the V10 is to mash the pedel
LMAO- looks like a lot of people just read the overhead computer when the truck is idling.
Sadly, I bought into the hype once. Best economy my '03 DMax ever got was 18 and I had to drive frustratingly slow to do that. Funny thing is that on the same trip (Tulsa to Dallas) in my wife's '04 Expedition, I got 17.8 MPG- and that included a weeks worth of driving in the metroplex. I'm sure the Expy would have done better without all that stop-n-go stoplight drag racing.
I'll take the V10 and any MPG "penalty" that comes with the fun factor.
30? yah sure. my v10 best ever was a drive from nj to arlington in va at a steady 65 still only 15 . my every day av is 11.5 to 12.46 . and that depends on my right foot
the 12 family members here with their psd's don't get better then 17 unloaded
My lifted V10 is always with in 3mpg of the diesels, and when im hauling a load i go about 5mph slower (65 vs 70) and get the same (7-8mpg). This is comparing to 99 7.3, 03 6.0, and 05 Cummins.
The only diesel that i have had experence with that got good mpg,s is my friend 97 dodge 2500 4x4 cummins 6 speed. He can get a real 20-21 mpg at 75 on the hway.
I have averaged the low 13's with my last 5 or so tanks. I find that remarkably good for such a big truck. I think in total overall daily cost, the V-10 does as well as any diesel.
That was with me keeping it under 80 too, Just filled up again and got 15.3, alot of over 80 there, I think to get any better than that I would have to drive like a sane person. Its nice to know for sure that tyhe diesel is not getting that much better than my 10. I put 30 gal. in and cost the company(gotta love that) 75 dollars, ouch,
