Had this put on today. http://www.aero-turbine.com/index.html?flash=1
After replacing the Y pipe, because of better air flow, my Magnaflow developed exhaust flutter and sounded tinny. So, after reading the comments on aero-turbine website, I bought the 3030. It did get rid of the exhaust flutter and the tinny sound. But, if you are not into loud, do not get this muffler. Great sound at idle and slow takeoff. But, when you start getting into the higher rpms before it shifts, it has a loud machine gun sound. After it shifts and goes to the lower rpms, it smooths out the sound. At cruising it sounds louder than the Magnaflow and the Flowmaster 40s which I also had. I like the aggresive sound. The truck definitely does not sound like a V-10 anymore.
Yea, except this is the 3rd Muffler in my quest for the right sound. For the money I paid for it, I am happy with the sound. Looking forward to meeting up with you.
Skipperw, I just bought an 01. Exhaust will be my 1st mod. From what I have read on this forum you still have stock headers. You changed the y pipe and added an aero-turbine.
Is this the best sound you have ever heard from a V-10.
How loud is it? Head turner or house shaker?
Man I just looked at your gallery. Now your truck sounds mean as well as looks it. I bet you get a lot of looks when you drive around. An now with the exhaust you have the complete package. What an awesome truck you have.
MDV-10, This sound is louder than the Flowmaster 40s if you have ever heard them. Hard to explain why at idle and going easy on the gas it has a smooth low rumble and then when you get to the higher rpms it is very loud with a machine gun sound. I guess it is the way it flows the air as explained on their website. If you stay easy on the gas, even at high rpms, and cruising at highway speed, which is 75 for me, it will stay at that smooth sound. The machine gun sound only starts if you go about 1/2 way down on the gas pedal. Read some of the testamonials on these pages. http://www.aero-turbine.com/seehear/seehear.html
I would say head turner at idle and cruising. House shaker when it does the machine gun sound. Except for when I have my cutout open, this is the best sound I have gotten out of my V-10. It also helps the air flow because it is a straight through muffler.
150ford, thanks for the compliment. I have gone to 5 shows this year and have won 4 firsts in 2000 and up Trucks. Tells me I have put the right appearance mods on the truck. I am putting seat covers on my Captains Chairs in a few weeks. Wait till I post photos up. I have been to big car shows and read all the truck magazines. I have not seen any car or truck with these seat covers. All I can say is wait till you see the BLING!
Skipper, You "replaced the Y pipe" with what? Are you still 2 into 1 or do you now have real duals with two of the Aero's??? Is it 3" inlet and outlet?
Thnx for the info and pix. Your gallery pic of the Y pipe installed looks like a real crimp is in the pipe just below engine left of center or in the upper right of above pic. Also, the gallery shows nothing about a supercharger mentioned on your i.p. I also do not see openings at the rear of your hood "scoops" ??? Are they fake? When you open your cutouts, do you get the silly riceburner popping sound I have described from my V-10 with no muffler? Your gallery pix show me a truck begging for larger rear tires. Do you have the same size front and rear? If 2WD, why same size? Does it look "right" to you as is? thnx again!
The crimp in the new Y pipe looks worse in the photo. You have to remember that the 2 spots in the old Y pipe where the header pipes enter the Y pipe, are narrowed down to 1 1/2 inches, besides the right header pipe is then haveing the air flow into a 90 degree turn. The new Y pipe is 3 inches all the way from the headers to the catalytic converter and the bends are slight. The sound after the install almost doubled and performance definitely improved. My hood scoops are functional. There is a spot in the right rear of the engine that the air flows to. Definitely slightly lowered my engine temperatures 5 to 10 degrees. When I open the cutout there is no ricer sound. When I got the Supercharger I changed the tires to Toyos Proxes S/T. They are rated up to 140mph. I also changed the size to 275/60/16. The tires are 3" lower and 2" wider than stock. The new size also changed my rearend ratio from 3.73 to 4.07. Because of the traction problems, I just bought an Eaton Posi-Traction rear and a Mag-Hytec Differential Cover. Also ordered and am waiting for Traction Bars from airbagit.com. It is 2WD. I lowered the rear with 2" shackles. The truck sits low and is level front to rear.
with this straight thru design, do you have a resonance at light throttle but medium load as in other straight thru's ? At around 55 to 65 mph ? I love my sound at idle, I like it at WOT, but at part throttle on the freeway when I'm taking advantage of the V-10's torque I have a very boomy-type resonance. I was told this is pretty much the case with all straight thru's. The sound clip of the V-10 at aero turbine sounds almost exactly like my AeroTech-Holley muffler.
Gas pedal 1/2 way down is when the machine gun sound starts. Kinda hard to explain how it sounds. You will just have to buy one or find someone that has one. The big problem is a that price, I would hate to tell you that it sounds great and then to your ear it doesnt and you then want to kill me.
STRANGE comment yesterday. I have no muffler now but ahead of that is stock. I was pulling up my driveway and some skilled trademen were out front working on my porch. One told me that my truck sounded like his neighbor's Viper and he asked what engine I had. I said; "V-10" and he lit right up. "UH-HUH!!" "V-10!!" "V-10!!!" ??????????
Hi all. I am the proud owner of a new 2005 F-250/6.8L Harley. Previously, I had a D#%?!&%^ w/a 5.9L, and Flowmaster 50's... Truck aside, I did like the sound on the 5-9, but recently heard an '04 6.8L w/the same setup, and yep - kinda tinny, esp. at higher rpms. Couple questions: does anyone have any recommendations/experience w/the THREE-valve V-10 yet - with respect to exhausts? Secondly, can I get the sound you describe - deep/rumble, not crackle/rice-burner without too much inside noise out of anyone's cat-back system? Thanks in advance for any help!
