If too small of a ring gap...the rings would have butted, siezing up in the bore ans breaking off the piston skirt and ruining the cylinder wall. I'm willing to put money that he's running lean. maybe a blockage in the intake? Bad carb tune? Not enough fuel pressure?
Correct me if i'm wrong, but a blockage in the intake causes a rich condition, not lean, right?
Well, if there is a blockage in the intake of a carbed engine, fuel and air will both be restricted since...they're both flowing through the intake. I would think a blockage could make it run rich or lean...
yeah, you're right about that, that's a different problem than what i was thinking of. I don't have a carb on my engine, so I'm not familiar with them. I was thinking of a blockage above the jets, causing choking, but thats just cause I work on lawn mowers all the time, lol. I know in a fuel injected engine, if you have a blockage in the upper intake, it causes a rich condition, that's where I got it from. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
It causes a rich condition because the fuel injectors are down by the end of the intake port, right before the cylinder head. There is no fuel traveling through the manifold, just air. So the blockage would only block air...lowering the amount of air vs fuel...causing rich condition.
