I read in the forum at one point that someone suggested putting a penny in the connector to the EGR. It sounds good as it will still work as a sensor, you will not get the 31/32 codes and you are not filling your intake with carbon. The downside as I see it is that you are not reburning a very small amount of hydrocarbons. Does this make sense, and has anyone done it and if so did it affect the emmissions test?
It will affect emissions because the whole point of EGR is to put already burned gases back into the combustion chamber. By doing this you lower the temperature in the chamber, which reduced Nitrogen Oxides (produced primarily when there are high temps in combustion). This means hotter exhaust and more work for your catalytic converter. Only a few things kill a converter, conamination, rust, and high temperatures. Just something to think about. Its not going to give you much power at all if you block it off.
there are a lot of bronco guys running no emissions with cat still in place and have passed emissions. if the motor is in tune you wont have a problem. go to www.fordfuelinjection.com for the resistor that makes the ecu think its hooked up.
I don't think its possible to give a definite answer without actually measuring performance. The efficiency of internal combustion engine will improve with higher temperatures, but because of the NOx, that's kept under check, and the EGR is one way to lower it.
Another way to think is that for simplicity, one can treat exhaust as an inert gas that is used to dilute mixture. Obviously, a diluted mixture may not be as efficient as a not diluted one. However, to get all the advantage of the undiluted mixture, one would also need to adjust the computer, which is a non-trivial thing.
I plugged the tube that goes to in the bottom of my egr valve, and left the sensor hooked up. My 302 had a bad spark knock until I opened the tube up again.
I tried the resistor that was talked about previously, I got two things from it, a check engine light and a low speed serge. Leave the egr the way Ford intended it and you will be better off.
if you got those symptoms then there was something else wrong. i know plenty of guys running that resistor with no issues. did you contact ryan and ask him why it wasnt working for you?
on the www.fordfuelinjection.com home page you will see a menu on the right side of the page, go to products I believe it's next to the last on the menu. Then scroll down to egr eliminator. I hope this helps.
Found it,thanks. I think I saw the resistors on Ebay for some outlandish price, and found that you could go to Radio Shack and buy a pack of 10 for a buck or something. Do you remember the value (ohms)of these?
