I just passed a station this morning that jumped its price $0.11 from yesterday morning. I pass this same station every morning on my way to work. They are now at $2.489/gallon. I am starting to go nuts. This is absolutly rediculous.
I know this has been asked before but how is diesel refined compared to regular fuel? Local for my area of Michigan I see a $0.20 to #0.30 difference for diesel over regular fuel. The diesel being more expensive.
I am really starting to consider selling the truck. I can mot take much more of this.

cut & paste these links into your browser. Its not the refining process that caused the increase in deisel cost. Its was speculation that there would be high demand (potential shortage) for heating oil this winter, this caused a spike in futures. Hell we aren't even starting into summer and commodities brokers are speculating about heating oil shortages
Even w/ the increased cost of diesel, my PSD is paying for itself w/ slightly higher mileage. It will take more data to calculate reliable operating costs per mile on my truck, including oil changes, hand washes, accesories, and tires.
I wouldn't worry, that 6.0 is worth every penny IMO.
There is no way my truck is paying for itself. Regular unleaded most places is $2.10 to $2.15. While diesel seems to be $2.29 and up. The absolute best mileage I have seen to date is 15MPH. So I am eating higher fuel cost along with that HUGE preimum I dropped for the diesel.
If you go to a gasser in the SAME truck your mileage would be less for the most part and even worse if towing a large load. I take this from what I get VS a relative with a gasser in the same truck other than the engine. I even have some extras he doesn't have
For at least the last 6 months the price of diesel here on Long Island has been $2.49 a gal. It hasn't dropped a penny with all this rise, and fall of crude prices.
When I read the news about the oil markets it brings me to tears, this is it, forget about the good old days (2004 and back).
They talk of lack of refining capability. Emerging markets (China, India). Instability (Iraq) in the world markets. Every day it's something new, and worst of all the price isn't being driven by production output, it's driven by speculation.
Apparently our economy has been able to tolerate this state so far, but for how long before things get real shaky.
Remember that sculpture in Texas with all those 59 Caddy's buried nose down in the ground? Who'll be the first to donate their prized SuperDuty for a worthy cause, tax deductable of course?
No Bio diesel here on Long Island, besides, Bio is more expensive. Not to mention Ford doesn't recomend more than 5% Bio.
Your points are valid but i was infering buying it or making it yourself.
Lets say that diesel goes to $5 a gallon. I'll bet the alternative becomes more attractive.
It's common knowledge that biodiesel can be brewed at home for under a dollar per gallon.
