I Just bought an auto meter trans temp gauge for my truck. I plan to install it in the dash on the right side of the steering column. Now the question, How do you bright people cut the hole? It is a 2 1/6" hole and I will be killed if it does not look good. I know how to center the hole, but 2 1/6"? I noticed that you can't cover your sins with a trip ring on the autometer gauges (Narrow Semi circular rim on gauge). StevenG
Check my gallery for pics. If I remember correctly I used a 2" hole saw. It gave the gauge a nice snug fit and did not require any clamps to hold it in place. If its too tight you can dress it out with a file. Drill a small hole first and check for location on the inside before using the hole saw.
Another tip. Start with the hole saw running backwards. It is less likely to grab and tear that way. Also, cover surrounding areas with duct tape for protection.

I did the same thing on my old '94. I just took the dash out. Real easy after you get the light switch out. Then drill a 2" hole with a hole saw. I dressed the hole out to the right diameter with a dremel tool. Looked really slick. I had room for another gauge if I wanted. I put it in the square area where the 4X4 controls would have been.
