My noise (5.4) is more pronounced on the passenger side.

From most, if not all, of the posts I have read the sound has been heard coming more predominantly from the passenger side of the engine. Mine is louder from that side also. I am going to try and get my truck looked at in the next week.

If this "newly designed" cam sensor is available, can someone who has access to the PART#, and actual TSB# please post them for the rest of us.

Has anyone else had this "new" cam phase sensor installed? I have not had this done yet, and would really appreciate any new information or any new experiences any of you have had with this.

Just had the "updated" phaser assembly installed in my 2004 F-150 Super Crew Lariat 4X4 . I started experiencing the symptoms described in this thread at around 4500 miles. My issues started with vibrations that I was experiencing. It took several trips to the dealer to isolate what was going on. First they couldn't find anything. Second time they "neutralized" the exhaust vibration by loosening and retorquing the engine mounts, which helped some, but didn't cure the problem. The third time I wrote down everything to describe the condition including how warm the truck was, how long it had been running, and so on. The one major thing was that the vibration was at about 1500 RMP regardless of gear, including Park. When ticking was present, so was the vibration. There were times when there was no ticking and no vibration. But when it was ticking, it was vibrating. It was kind of a ghost hunt. The service advisor would feel it, but the mechanics wouldn't and visa versa. Go figure. The dealer talked to Ford directly rather than cite something out of their OASIS database and determined that it was the phaser assembly. I had to wait a couple days for parts but with the updated phaser assembly installed, it's been smooooooth and a very different (in a good way!) truck. Other issues I've had were stalling which a PCM reflash cured and warped brake rotors which Ford replaced -- guess there was a bad batch of rotors as I've seen other issues on this for this model year. It's been a rough start but so far, so good now that the known kinks are worked out. I'm keeping my truck!

Other than that and a parking brake probem that caused vibration it runs well and delivers between 14 and 18 miles per gallon. Not bad for a 5.4 four wheel drive.

If you want check out the posts I have submitted, there maybe some info that you can use. My 04 Lariait Screw 4X4 has had both sides replaced @500 kilometers (300 miles) and then the engine replaces @ 5000 kilometers. It got worse to the point that a 6.0 Liter diesel was quieter. After the intial cam phaser change the quiet last a few thousand klicks then came back with a vengence. Hopefully yours is cured. But if you want to know how it works read on.
Let me know what you think.

I finally had my cam phasers replaced with the redesigned units, as well as a reflash. Mine definitely was not as loud as a 6.0L diesel, but was very annoying and embarassing nonetheless.

My engine is very quiet now , and a bit more responsive as well (probably because of the reflash). Hopefully it stays that way. It will be interesting to see if my fuel efficiency increases.

Has anyone had a problem with any of the redesigned (May 2005 - if I remember correctly) cam sensors?

I just got my 05 s/crew back from dealer today. I had the same diesel sound, took it in and service rep said its normal. Finally after spending 4 hours on net found that everyone was having the same problem, they replaced sensor number on invoice says 3R2Z-6A257-DA. Description says they replaced phaser assy. but no part numbers for that. Hope it helps. Still have the red ***!!!!!!!!! 3 weeks old 1100 miles!!!!!!
