I put a single chamber on my 97 150 4.6 and it sounds good. It still has all 4 cats on it so it is not loud at idol but has a good rumble under acceleration. I bought an IMCO single chamber on ebay for 25.00 for testing instead of buying a flowmaster @ 70.00. Didn't want to spend all the money and not like it. It has been on the truck for over a year and is still in great shape. I thought for 25.00 it would rot out pretty quickly. The design is the same as flowmaster, just not welded up inside as well. The baffels are just spot welded in.
oh yeah my friends is a 01 with a 5.4, and thats exactly what we wanted to hear something that would sound nice under acceleration but not too loud everywhere u go.i seen those imco on ebay but for the price i always thought they might be cheap quality, i might give em a second look now.well thanks for the reply
i got the muffler today and took it to the shop my friend couldnt be happier!!!! it sounds just like having dual exhaust and when idling and windows rolled up u cant hear it,under full acceleration it has a nice rumble, and for a total of $120 bucks,$73 for the muffler and $40 for the installation.i think this is the low buck way to go!!and the imco from ebay are even cheaper as stated above.some information if anyone ever wants to know
That's cool. Glad it worked out for him. I really like the sound of mine and the fact that you can still hear the radio or talk to someone at highway speeds.

yeah i told him about the imco but he said that it sounded like it was just like he wanted so he decided to just to go with the flowmaster.my uncle put dual one chamber flows on his 65 falcon like a year back and it sounded wicked, so i always thought a one chamber on a single should sound right for someone looking for a low buck rumble.oh the guys at the shop looked at the muffler and asked where we got it and they had never seen such a thing.these mufflers are also great for cars where clearance is an issue.
