My 302 has high miles on it. There are no ticks, knocks or misses, yet when I am driving between 45-75 mph it cuts out. Any ideas on what may cause this?
HOw long since you had it tuned up? You might check the spark plugs for being fouled and distributor cap and rototr bug for wear. Just my 2 cents. Hpe it helps .
sounds like a lean fuel condition, if a tune up doesnt help try a fuel filter and check the carb. sounds like its not getting enough fuel at cruise under load.
Are you sure it engine and not transmission. Does it have the O/D tranny. If its O/D check TV cable at throttle. JUST IN CASE. IF NOT FIXED RIGHT AWAY YOUR LOOKING FOR TRANNY REBUILD.
his 93 would be the e4od and would not have a tv cable. but codes should be checked first before replaceing anything. also might run some seafoam thru the motor and gas tank. this will clean the motor and the fuel system. you may also have a fuel pump going out as well.
i agree with kemical burns, defintly start by checking codes, and since it has high milage run the sea foam through it. (good idea to do this in a large open area since it will most likely smoke like ****)
Not true kemicalburns, just because its a 93 doesn't mean its got the e4od. My trucks a 93 and it has an aod, although there is a greater chance that it is the e4od.
My truck has a 5 speed manual o/d transmission (Mazda?)
It also has an aluminum driveshaft which I find odd. Anyway, not sure about the "tv" cable and the "seafoam." I guess my vocabulary needs an upgrade. Could you guys please explain these terms to me? Also what about the code being read? I just bought this truck and it is the first "modern"truck I have ever owned. (my others are 77'and 79') . I greatly appreciate the help and advice.
Thanks
Ford Cardinal

the AOD was no longer produced for trucks after 89. everything went e4od in 90 for all engines 300-6,302,351w. were is your od is it a button on the dash or at the end of the gear selector. if you do infact have an AOD it was swapped in by previous owner.
Ok FordCardinal, forget what I posted about the transmission. It wouldn't apply to your vehicle(Why? Because its a manual). But "tv" is throttle valve cable and "seafoam" seems to be some space age technology in a can. I haven't used it, yet, but alot of people say it does wonders.
Have you had the codes checked? It could be fuel starvation. So I would start w/ fuel filter first.
I forgot you asked about codes. You vehicle stores codes in computer. Do a search on this site on codes. Yours should be OBD I system. There is alot of info. on these boards. You might also look around the seperate forum for the year of your truck.
Kemicalburns i don't have an od button. The only way i get od is by by moving the gear selector to the od position. My shift patern is P R N OD D 1 and it has a tv cable and i've run my vin through a couple of different decoder and all came back saying it has the aod so i'm 100 % sure i have an aod from the factory.(probably a special order or just very uncommon) i had another 93 (may it rest in piece, untill i can get it back from the insurance company then its getting stripped and parted.) before the one i have now it had an e4od (P R N 0D 2 1) and the od button on the shift lever.

This after noon when i posted i was in a hurry so i didn't get a chance to make sure i worded everything right.(i think it was just a brain fart) i ment to say, "although there is a greater chance that he has the e4od".
Its a 302 and its got the 3.55 stuffed in a limited slip diff. The 4.10 would be nice but stoping at the gas station every 5 days (proably more like 3 or 4 with my heavy foot) would suck.
