I have an 89 F-150 and the key lock has broken. I’ve seen new key locks at the parts stores and I was looking for some advice on repairing this problem. I was wondering about what kind of puller I should use to get the steering wheel off and if there is anything I should be careful of when performing this repair. Thanks!
You dont have to remove the steering wheel to remove the lock cyl from this year ford truck. First of does the swtich turn with the key? You will need to put the key in the on possition, locate the hole on the right lower side under the switch, you can depress the pin using a large paperclip and just pull it out.
Yes, the key does turn it just won't push the rod far enough that goes to the ignition switch. I've tried adjusting the position of ignition switch but that won't make it work. Thanks for your help. It sounds like this may be an easy repair.
Yeah, I kind of figured that death3k or ssanto needed help, but it's funny how someone, (myself included) can overlook the dates on a thread. I did that on another forum board and realized that the post was 4 years old and the original poster had been dead for a year.
