Question V-10 vs. PSD

Can somebody point me in the direction of a thread of this topic (searched and that was a waste of time)

Some background:
The truck the family has now is a complete LEMON( 01' F-350, CC, 4wd, Lariat)!! Won't pull an empty 3 horse bumper pull up an incline at WOT. Rolled the one previous to this one (99' same as above) pulled like a team of Clidesdales.

My father-in-law is comeing back from Iraq in Nov. Will go to Ford and custom order one at that time.

I'm wanting info on mileage between the two engines.

Thanks,
Eric

try in the 6.0 area and the v10 area. we have had many threads about it. many pros and cons on both sides.
i for one don't tow as much as our diesel bros here and my 05 v10 does all the work i throw at it. about 9500 max so far. but you have said horses that just well mean's diesel. nothing wrong with either motor. but the one will do more then the other and i'm not about to start a war here. check out the areas and make up your own mind.
one other thing you may need to know. the 06 model year will be very short as the 07 will be out early in 06 and will be a new truck and maybe a new diesel. have now clue at all on the gassers. good luck on the truck and a safe remaining time for your father in law.

man, don't ask for opinions here, there are pages, upon pages about this subject.....

do this, go DRIVE EACH ONE YOURSELF.

then, you decide.

v10 get anywhere from 8-14mpg depending on alotta stuff

6.0's get anywhere from 12-23mpg depending on too much stuff

alotta stuff can be:
if the owner is happy with his purchase, he may exaggerate his claims
if he is unhappy, he may exaggerate how poor his milage is
if you have a reg cab 2wd, longbed, no power, 6 speed you get better milage than a cc long bed 4wd with 40" tires!

me, i get 16.5-17 with my stock geared, lifted sc sb 4x4 6.0

the 05 v10 is a fun drive! i was impressed.

My personal experience. My 04 F350 CC-LB 6.0 gets average 16-18 (21 Best). My 01 F250 SC-SB V10 got 11-13 (15 Best). My 99 F350 CC-LB Dually V10 got 10-11 (12 Best and 4-5 towing heavy loads).

I am also curious about what Ford has down the road. I will probley wait until around 08. By then I should have over 100,000.

This subject has been beat to death so many times and you make friends on one side and enemies on the other if you do not choose your words carefully. Here is my opinion on this . In my own personal experience doing an identical 2000 mile trip driving both vehicles for power and pleasure I averaged 8.7 with my new V10. Last Sept, I did this same trip with my 04 F350 6.0 PSD and got 10.5 . Both of these trucks weighed just over 11000 pounds but my 99 F350 had a GVW of 9900 and this 05 has a GVW of 11200 and yes it feels good to be legal.
The extra cost of the diesel motor is not what made me order my V10. I had bad luck with my 04 PSD and I have no confidence in the 6.0 PSD. I do like the 7.3 PSDs very much and it was a shame Ford had to leave that motor supposably for emmission standards. The 7.3 did enjoy a 9 year successful production run and IMO, the 6.0 PSD was originally planned to run at least as long. Cummins and Duramax are meeting the new emmision standards without a complete motor change. I feel that there are reliability concerns with the 6.0 and that is why Ford is leaving this motor after a 3.5 year run. This is my opinion and it is shared by many. If you don't like the message, don't shoot the messenger. I am not a mean spirited person and I wish all 6.0 owners the best of luck with their motors
This is my one and only post on this thread. I don't want to argue anymore about this.
1970 Custom is asking for opinions on which motor to buy. I gave him my opinion and if someone else wants to share there own ideas, great but please let's not get personal on this. Take care and have a good day. Wrenchtraveller.

hmm, not to start a war here but didnt the 7.3 start out as a 6.9 first (.4 liter difference) and now the 6.0 may become a 6.4? hmm, maybe its an international engine game. make a new motor, then add .4liters in a few years.

So do Ford's gas motors not have any problems or recalls? Or just not as many percieved problems as the PSD?

Which motor has a larger production run?

If you don't like the message, don't shoot the messenger.

Nothing personal Wrenchtraveller but...if you don't want to be shot at why make yourself a target with, at the very least, veiled 6.0 slams?

The 7.3 did enjoy a 9 year successful production run and IMO, the 6.0 PSD was originally planned to run at least as long.

Curious as to where you got this info.

This is my opinion and it is shared by many

I guess it wouldn't be fair to suggest that many more do not share your opinion.

Now, with that said...both engines are very good engines and either would surely serve you well.

The 6.0 has had more than it's fair share of issues and some owners have had a horrific time. I can tell you however, that over a dozen of my friends and acquaintances have 6.0s and run them hard...dailey, in the various trades. Not a one have had any significant issues. Some a very high mileage.

Mine has the lightest duty of those I know and no issues for me. To a person, we are all somewhat hesitant to go in for the current recall since we are experienceing no issues.

Good luck and safe trucking.
