Almost flames

Thanks to this board I was able to avoid a catastrophe. Cruise failed about 2 weeks ago, then lost brakelights...checked this board and found the answer...brake pressure switch. Went to check it out and heard something that sounded like bacon frying. Popped the hood and smoke poured from around the master cylinder...disconnected the battery and pulled the wire from the switch. All your help saved my truck....Thanks!

Isn't there supposed to be a recall on these switches? I don't want my truck to go up in smoke.

Is there a quick fix we can do? For example, under normal operation the switch is closed, so can we cut the 2 leads going to the switch off, and solder them together (then insulate)?

Not recommended - just disconnect the lead from the pressure switch unless you want to replace the switch; about $25 from dealer. They just gave me a replacement. If you disconnect the pressure switch the cruise is disabled.

Well I don't have cruise so I'm guessing I have nothing to worry about? Thats why I love vehicles with no options. The only options I have is the off road package and tow package. Nothing special in the interior, cause thats just more stuff that could fail.

In 10 years of driving, I have never, ever used Cruise Control. (All vehicles I've driven has cruise control)

So I guess that makes this easy I just need to remind myself to do so.

Oh? Are you positive? I'm asking because I'm concerned about this issue, but I have a 5-speed manual in my truck.

So I see that there was an article posted today about these switches. One question. It says Explorer without IVD from 1995-2003. What is IVD?
