I've got a 91 F150, 300/6, E4OD, EFI, no AC. Since the weather's gotten a little colder here in WI, I've been getting a shudder when cruising down the highway doing 55MPH. I've felt this kind of thing before but not as frequent and I figured it just wasn't sure what gear to be in. But now this happens everyday and very frequent at 55MPH. The shudder stops when I accelerate or let off the peddle but comes back when I try and stay at a steady speed whether at 35, 55 or 65MPH.
Since this started happening, I've installed a tranny cooler and did a complete flush and fill on the tranny fluid. I just changed the tranny filter this summer. The plugs, wires, dist cap and rotor are new from this summer also.
Any suggestions? Injectors clogged? Tranny filter clogged? Fuel filter clogged?
I have that same condition only it's on my,
(shudder), Suburban. I replaced the detent cable on the transmission and that seems to have fixed it. I'm not sure this will help you but thought I'd put it out there.
I recently had the same problem with my 94 F-150 2x4, AODE tranny. A shudder would develope between 50 and 60mph. This seems to be a common problem with early 90's Ford transmissions. Although, it doesn't seem like a serious problem...just annoying. I was in another forum and a Ford Tech mentioned that they were having success eliminating the shudder by using synthetic Mercon V fluid.
I replaced my ATF fluid this past weekend with the Mercon V and have not felt the shudder since. Of course, its only been a few days but I'm feeling confident that I've solved it (for now).

I had the same problem and a simple fluid/filter change cured the problem.
I have 145k on mine
If the shudder seems to be coming from the trans,my guess is possible torque converter. These are inexpensive to do if you do it yourself,it's just the aggravation of having to pull the trans.
