I'd like to get 300-310 hp out of my 351W/C6 speed density.Since its for tow I'm more concerned about lots of torque.
Looking at Trick flow or Edelbrock intake.- Decent Heads-Cam-Exhaust
This would be installed on a reman motor with 20000 miles bored 0.30 already.Quality internals but nothing exotic.
With this combo would you try to tune the Speed Density or convert to Mass Air?
Would a stock mass conversion air handle this Hp number?
Are the stock 19 lb/hr injectors enough and are the stock in tank fuel pumps enough?
And most importantly is that upper end work going to get me close to the HP-torque Im looking for?
I would think if you converted to Mass air it would handle the mods better so Ive been told they are much easier to calibrate and tune to your cam specs and you can get more power out of a mass air setup.
Convert to MAF, I got a used kit for $450 or so. The sequential injection is nice to have.
It'll probably run the motor well enough, but again, you won't see the best performance unless you tune it. You can tune it on your own or have it put on a dyno using SCT tuning. In one of the books I read, the guy picked up 50 more horses off a tune, and his original EFI was acceptable.
The 19s are close, i say try them out and see what happens. The stock fuel pumps should be alright. Again, wait and see.
A 351 with GT-40Y heads ($700 new, decent aluminum heads), edelbrock truck intake, 56mm TB, good cam, roller rockers, good ignition....that should easily hit that target.
all those mods can be run off of the speed density system just fine. the cam selection is the most important part though. you must run a cam with a lobe seperation no less then 114* for the computer to be happy. but everything else you asked will do fine and actually run very well. if your really wanting mass air check out www.fordfuelinjection.com they have the best mass air prices and there is a lot of info on the site regarding the tolerances of speed density.
im not doin that much to my motor.and im still swtichin to MAF.. but ive heard alotta bad things and not to much good till this post about upgrading ur motor and SD
the cam is the real heart of it all. i know few guys that have a 357 edelbrock or trickflow heads running compcam 35-255-5 cam along with an edelbrock efi truck intake and bbk throttle body along with headers and exhaust work done. they have no drivability issues whats so ever. im sure if you really start bumping the displacment up then sure the SD system will start to freak out. thats when tuning comes in. if you go check out the lightning forums alot of those guys are sticking with sd and just using a tweecer to get there motor tuned.
I agree mass air is the way to go if you can afford it , but starting with sd wont hurt nothing either you can switch to mass air anytime.
tweecer? my motor is bored a bit over....360ci ported heads, headers, bored thorrotle body, cam 35-255-25 and 10;1 compression. not sure weather sd would like that.....but how much would it be to tune the sd ? cause right now im dumpin money into this and i need new tires realy bad. and it needs to be ready to go to florida since thats when ima be stationd for the next 4 years.
