I have a 1998 f-150 trition 4.6 L we had the engine replaced last november with a 2004 crate engine. then in January the trans started slipping it was rebuilt and we got about 2000 miles out of it. and it started slipping again.. it was rebuilt again and now its slipping for a third time the trans repair place says then canot find out why its doing this and thinks it somehting electrical or from the new engine... Does anyone know of any compatability problems with a newer engine and a 98 trans? this will be the third rebuild in 6 months on the trans.

I had the same type problem, it would slip in 2nd gear then it started in 3rd also, the stealership had to rebuild the accumalators in the tranny and the problem went away. its been 50000 miles since. hopes this helps
Steve what year is your truck and is it an automatic? I have a 2001 supercrew 4x4 5.4L with 70k miles and the tranny started slipping between 40 and 50 mph i took it to the dealer they said nothing was wrong with it but its not normal ...if i take the truck out of over drive before i move it won't do it and thats what they told me to do..this is not right?? I don't think the tranny should act like this am I wrong or right? maybe cause I am a female they think I would believe this? any help would be great Thank you
Cowgrl12 yes that is the same problem we had except for it being a 2 wheel trans. when the over drive was off it was fine but with it on i slipped in 4th its not normal and let to even more problems with the trans. I had our trans rebuilt and that was only the beginning of the problems. Its been rebuilt 3 more times in less than 6 months. I talked to a friend of mine that is a service manager at a Ford dealership. He told me because of all the electronics in the trans that they don't even rebuild them any more, its cheaper to just replace it with a new trans and it comes with a 36000 mile warentee. The trans shop we used honered its warentee and eventually replaced the whole trans... i would suggest going to a different dealership and taking the service advisor for a test drive. our Truck was a 1998
