End seals: different size gap

I set the PI on the 390 with the Mr.G, gaskets for a dry run to check the end seal gap, to see if I should use the cork seals or Silicone. The front fits just a little tight but the back is loose, maybe .020 no way the man. will make contact. I have a set of Felpro end seals that are a little thicker but still don't touch. Should I use the cork and fill the void with silicone?

I jumped the gun a little

I put the side gaskets on, put the bolts in and snuged them down and it got better. I think the tabs on the head gasket were holding the intake up. Now a Mr. Gasket cork fits snug in front and a Fel-P cork fits snug in back. I don't like the fit on either one, that little tab that hooks to the side gasket, might just wack em off and use silicone. The Fel-P cork has a adhesive already on the back, how good does that work?

I just put my intake on and I used the cork seals on the end. I know several people here have said to just use silicone. I used silicone to glue the cork in place and I put a good bead at the corner where the cork meets the side gaskets. I don't know what's best...I've installed intakes like this before without any problems but I'm always crossing my fingers and hoping it doesn't leak...lol.

'stang....these FE's are something else aren't they. Like you I've put other motors together without all these odd problems. I too used the cork seals but I cut that tang off on the ends. The silicone oozed out and looks great. I don't see how it could leak. Did you slip the dizzy in before you tighened the manifold bolts? If not you better check and make sure it will slip in, I had that problem last time.

hmmmm....I haven't installed the dizzy yet. Actually I ordered a reman dizzy that I'm to pick up today. Guess I'll find out tonight if it will fit. Hopefully it will...I've already installed the intake twice because I left out the splash shield the first time...the way my luck is I'm probably headed for yet a third time now...lol.

the adhesive on the gasket is just to keep them from slipping, don't know if it helps with the sealing

silicone

I used a fat bead front and read of "The Right Stuff", no leaks so far. You must make sure to intstall the intake in a jiffy, cause is the silicone will dry and make a light shell and then not stick to the intake. I learned the hard way. I like to be 100% ready to bolt the intake down, quickly spread the 2 fat beads on the block, then smear a thin coat on the intake so the fat beads have somthing better to stick to. Worked for me

I can second the "Right Stuff" recommendation; I've yet to find it's equal. Once it sets nothing seems to take it off including acetone and the "gasket remover" you can buy at the parts store. So, as a word of caution, be careful were you put it.
