Exclamation Thread re-title ........Axle ID

just bought a 77 f-250 with 460 buts its 2 wheel drive but the guy also threw in a rolling chasis with solid axles he claims the front is a d-60 but im not shur how can i tell what axle it is and what the frame actually came from i plan on making a mud rig so any info would be great thanx

Dana 60 has MASSIVE knuckles. The knuckle wraps from the bottom of the forged inner "C" to over the top. Also, look for a 4 bolt cap with a greasble fitting in the middle on the top of each knuckle. Those are a dead give away for kingpins. If there is just a large nut and cotter pin, thats a ball joint, and it would be a D44. I know there are numbers you can search for, but most axles are covered with grit, and hard to read, and require you lay on the ground. Knuckle ident, at least to me, is the easiest way

if you get it clean on the diff webbing there is either a 44 or a 60 stamped on it. if you know what a 44 looks like and compare it to a 60 there is a big size difference too. but a 60 will have 4 bolts on top and a 44 three.
