Fuel filter tool?

What does your little fuel line tool look like? The dorks at Auto Zone are no help. I bought something that looks like it would work but can't pop the filter loose. What gives? Can anyone post a pic of their tool, or direct me to a pic from a web site?

A few more questions, is the fuel line still pressurized? How much fuel is gonna come out of the line when I do get things apart? Is it gonna spray all over the place?

Take a look here. http://www.jcwhitney.com

Use "fuel line tool" in search box.

Yes, the fuel line will have some pressure. But there will only be a small (1/2 cup) of fuel should come out. If you point the filter at your fore head you will get more.

The trick is to push the fuel line all the way on the filter before you insert the tool and start pulling.

Here is a site with a photo

Yes there is pressure

Yes you will spill some fuel (even when you release the pressure)

To release the poresure there is a schreader valve on top of the left side motor as facing it. Some times there is a green plastic cover protecting it.

Looks just like a tire valve (cuz it is)

Do not spray this fuel in YOUR EYES it burns!

Not much will come out but try to catch it in a jar or something.

Do NOT push in this valve on a HOT MOTOR!

I have the little plastic ones from the parts store. I managed to get it to work on my truck, but it took some doing. The filter came out with pretty good bends in the fuel line portion of it. New one goes in with ease though.

Note: Wear safety goggles.

Got it done. The lines have to pushed in towards the filter then pulled off. Once I got it figured out it took all of 30 sec. to do. The gas that came outta that filter was nasty. It was black and mercky. Seems to have added a little pep to her to.

I get a LOT of crap fuel down here in Texas where we still have a fair amout of old gas stations with "exempted" in the ground tanks.

I fought for two years with a local station that caused me to loose a fuel pump in a Nissan 300zx ($580.00) and over a $1000 in labor and repairs. Bottom line is I lost.

I put on a new fuel filter once a year or every 15,000 miles. I think the "book" calls for every 30,000.

I use the Ford MotorCraft part mostly because it is always available. And mostly cuz I am lazy and have it done during a service.

$20.67 for a MC 2C509155AA

$11.49 for WIX 33243

I have set each of these parts side by side and torn into both... I can not see any difference.

BTW sorry if I screw any one up

The two part numbers above are for the 2005 6.8L V10

I have no idea why they would be any different between years ... but make sure you ask for the part for your year truck!
