Anyone know VIN code for 31sp Traction-Loc opt? n/m

what to look for to find a truck with the 31 spline traction-loc option. I could buy a new one, but want to pack extra clutches in anyhow. I did not mean to say vin, but what on the doorplate to look for.

Shawn: I'm assuming you're looking at F-150 with an 8.8 axle; all 8.8s in F series applications have a 31-spline axle. According to my Ford 1991 Specification book, look for axle codes H5, H8, or H9, which are 4.10, 3.08, and 3.55 to 1 ratios, respectively. "H"=factory limited slip, and I think Ford's used that same coding back to at least the '70's. A 4WD vehicle will have the numeral "2" in front of the "H". You will find this number under "axle" at the bottom of the certification decal on the driver's door jamb.
