Any Procrit users?

I'm starting Procrit in an attempt to get my chemo-induced anemia under control. Does anyone have any experience with it? How long before it starts to "work?" Are there any side effects that they forgot to tell you about?

Thanks for any insight!

Hi, I am Eric's wife. I was on Procrit for about 7 months during chemo. There are no side effects. It stimulates the bone marrow to produce red cells quickly - but you will probably be taking it throughout chemo. Each dose of chemo destroys the stem cells that produce your red cells and white cells (that's what it's made to do), so you can't take Procrit once or twice and have it work throughout chemo. The usual dose is 1-2 shots on days 7 thru 17 (thereabouts), if you are on a 3 week schedule. If you're on chemo every other or every week, it will probably be fairly constant. I used my thighs - they were less sensitive than the abdomen (in my case). One thing I did learn the hard way - let the dose come to room temp (lay it on the counter for about 20-30 minutes) before you inject it. It will not sting very much that way. Cold it tends to be painful. Good luck!
