I bought a 1972 f-100 sport custom and the guy that sold it to me said it was a 390, but after some cleaning i figured out it was a 391, it had a two barrel carb on it, i was wondering if thats the carb or not. Its a 1975 391. also i was wondering if parts from a 390 will fit onto the 391.
What led you to believe it's a 391? F100's never ever came with 391's. If you just see the mirror image 105 cast into the block, that just means it's a block with reinforced main webs and stronger metal like the FT's. Not that it's a 391, or any FT for that matter. I've got two mirror 105 blocks out in the garage that were 360's in F100's.
I cheched like the other topic said to look for the bolts on the manifold that are in the middle and appear to be straight through and there was no 105. the stick on the it clearyly says engine displacement 391, engine family 350-361-391
also its not the original engine someone put it in there.
well the ft's have limited potential is the sticker on the vlave cover , because it was common to swap valve covers. the ft engines are also externally balanced what kind of oil pan does it have.and one other way to find out if it is a ft is if the didpstick goes into the pan and not the block.
