Has anyone bought/used one of the "clear bra's" (paint protection film) on their 53-56 F100?
If so, how do you like it, and if you do ; where did you buy the material and was it a "kit"?

Kurt, A friend of mine owns Byers customs and restorations. He swears by that clear bra stuff. Although he DID say it is difficult to put on and should be left to a professional to put on. Apparently works just great. He said a lot of racers use it on their race cars. You can find a few suppliers on Ebay, and they can cut just about any design you might need for you application. 3M is probably the best "type" of material to use. Hope this helps.
The prices I've seen for it are out of this world, but it is quality stuff (this was installed price too). Maybe it will go down once it's more widely accepted.
It would appear to be just the ticket out here in the West; even on clear days there is small sand in the air and it gradually pits everything. If they would just make something like this for windshields...
And On Ebay, I can find it for my 05 mustang for around 119 for the kit....To have it installed is about 150-200 depending on where you go. Total comes up to around 250-350. ehhh It's a small price to pay to keep the front end looking good and not rubbed raw with a regular bra.
I guess I'm oblivious. Can someone explain a clear bra? I have seen newer cars with a plastic film over the front part of the hood, is this what we're talking about?
What does it take to install? Is it kind of heat shrink stuff?
At first I wasn't sure if this was a gift or for your truck but I think I got it now. A friend of mine used this stuff on his rice burning sports car while going cross country, said it worked ok. I seem to remember it was a little pricey but these days what isn't?
They don't call them the Rocky Mountains for nothing, there is pulverized granite all over, and even at 30 mph it will chip thru a factory basecoat/clearcoat right down to primer.
I had heard of someone spraying PAM on the front hood. Mostly for bugs and things. For driving accross country. They said it was tough to take off, but came off well using a car wash high pressure hose..
punch line? Re-read my first post. As far as spray-ons I have always used lemon Pledge on my hot rod while on the road. It REALLY shines up your paint and it is water soluble so it washes right off and nothing sticks to it. Doesn't guard against chips but it sure keeps the bugs off.
